How To Effectively Search For Jobs If You Are Currently Unemployed.

I am currently unemployed and I need a job urgently how do I get one, I have been unemployed for over 4 years, how do I get a good job fast?

A lot of unemployed people would like to get a job, especially one that pays well but they fail to get some basic factors right. They fail to make up their minds on exactly what they want, this sometimes prevents them from focusing their efforts on the exact type of job they want and they spread their job search efforts too wide. Some want a job but don’t put in enough efforts to get one.

Steps to take to ensure you get a job as quickly as possible.

  • Put your resume together in an impressive manner, the way your resume is “packaged” can sell you or disqualify you, it affects the selection process. A lot of applications and resumes have been thrown into the trash bin because they were poorly put together. Avoid spelling mistakes and update your resume properly, it should have all necessary details about you.
  • Decide on the type of job you would like to have, do a little research on it to see if you are qualified enough to get such a job if you apply for it. You can apply for jobs looking at the minimum requirements. Some employers ask for unrealistic qualifications and high years of experience, the chances are that if you apply you could hear from such employers as they realize they were asking too much.
  • You need to face facts and be objective in your job search, assess your qualifications and see if what you have can get you the type of job you want, if no is the answer then look at what you can get based on your qualifications. It should be something you can do without feeling depressed. Boost your self confidence and keep reminding yourself that getting the right job is a 4 to 6 months process; this should keep you less frustrated if you don’t get a job right away.
  • You should have an application goal, make up your mind to apply for a certain minimum number of jobs every day and stick to it. You could choose to apply for 5 jobs a day; such applications should match your areas of interests. If you can’t find 5 jobs in your chosen field, find a close match and apply. Avoid spreading your areas of interest too wide.
  • It is advisable to apply to the same company every few days, this can be done even if they did not advertise for any vacant positions that need to be filled. Some employers like to see the same resume 3 to 4 times, for them it shows enthusiasm and motivation.
  • Make looking for a job a full time job its self to ensure success, this means devoting a minimum of 30 hrs per week, put the required effort it takes to get a job in the present economy, get up early in the morning and prepare for the day then go out and actually look for a job. A lot of people spend time praying to get a job then don’t put in enough effort to make their prayers get answered.

Lastly tell everyone you know about your job hunting, relatives, friends, parents, and previous colleagues, people who might be able to give hints on job vacancies in their current companies, in some cases they know people who know about job openings in their own companies or companies that needs a new employee. That is what is called Networking.
