VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT:

Project Title: NGA/T18-PREVENTING AND COMBATING TRAFFICKING OF MINORS AND YOUNG WOMEN FROM NIGERIA TO ITALY

Project Title: National Project Officer NO-B

Duty Station: Abuja, Nigeria (UNODC Country Office in Nigeria)

Duration: 12 Months (Renewable, Subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

A National Project Officer (NPO) will be selected by UNICRI and UNODC/Nigeria for the planning, coordination and monitoring of activities in loco, and based at UNODC office in Abuja. The NPO will carry out regular missions in Edo State. The NPO will act, under the overall supervision of UNODC/Nigeria and UNICRI, to coordinate national experts and consultants and to assist with project management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the UNODC representative and UNICR focal point for this project, the officer will be responsible for the planning, coordination and monitoring of the activities of this project in Nigeria. The NPO will carry out regular missions in Edo State. In addition, He/She will also under take the necessary preparatory work for project evaluation, as well as support the UNODC staff member in the conduct of evaluation as required, and provide substantive inputs to project activities. In particular, the Project Officer will perform the following assignments:

  • Liaising with the UNICRI project staff for the establishment of Direct Contacts and lines of communications among relevant key agencies, namely, NAPTIP, NGO coalition in Edo State.
  • Prepare the project work plan including tasks, responsibilities, time frame and budgets for CONIG
  • Produce semi-annual and annual project progress report (PPR) toUNICRI and UNODC, including financial report and/or statements of account, mid-term review reports, written monthly briefs on the current status of the project, Project Evaluation Report, terminal and other reports.
  • Undertake the procurement and distribution of all materials purchased within the framework of this project.
  • Plan, coordinate and ensure effective implementation of women empowerment activities in Edo state.
  • Ensure all preparatory activities related to capacity building training for NGO coalition against Human trafficking in Edo state.
  • In close coordination with NAPTIP and UNICRI focal point for this project, plan and organise awareness campaign on preventing TIP in Edo state.
  • Keep inventories and records of delivered materials and funds disbursed and transmit them on a monthly basis to the Project Monitoring Unit.
  • Solve operational issues in the implementation of the project.
  • Liaising with UNICRI and all relevant partners for the preparation of the various workshops planned in the project.
  • Coordinate all experts’ mission in Nigeria within the framework of the implementation of this project.
  • Provide continuous hands-on approach and supervision in the implementation of program module activities.
  • Monitor and expedite project implementation through discussions, correspondence, field visits.
  • Coordinate printing and distribution of research reports with appropriate counterparts.
  • Other related tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced university degree in law, international relations economics, social science or any other related field.

Working Experience:

At least eight years of experience in the related discipline, extensive understanding of the issue of trafficking in persons, and the social and political environment in West Africa. Experience at international level and knowledge of the UN system is an asset. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are required.

Languages:

Fluency in written and spoken English, knowledge of another official UN language, in particular French, will be an asset.

Other skills and competences:

Excellent team work, communication, planning and organizing skills. Proven computer (MS office), writing and analytical skills.
